It is hard to think they are going to release a cheap tv.
Apple Might Sell 156 Million iTVs In Its First Year, Doubling Stock

According to a new proprietary study by Katy Huberty of Morgan Stanely (MS), Apple could sell 13 million
TV sets next year at $1,060 each.

That’s almost $14 billion in revenues for next year and an extra $4.50 in EPS, according to her.

Just to put that in some perspective, the consensus estimate from analysts is that Apple will do $220 billion

in revenues next year and $57 in EPS. So, if Huberty is right, those estimates would have to be bumped up
6% for revenues and 8% for EPS.

But wait. Her 13 million estimate was for the US only – and those were the people who said they were

“extremely interested” in buying an Apple –branded TV set.

If you also include the 36% in her survey who were “somewhat interested” in buying the TVs, that’s an

additional 43 million units.

And if you assume that Apple will sell 64% of its iTVs internationally vs. the US ( which is what they

did in Q2 of this year), there’s a good chance they could sell 156 million units in their first year after
shipping instead of 13 million.

And my extrapolated numbers above for worldwide sales in the first year of iTV sales after launch
could actually be understated. Why? Huberty found that 10% of her respondents were willing to
pay over $2,000 for each iTV. So her estimate of a $1,060 list price for iTV might go up when it finally
ships.

13 million people will be disappointed when the itv comes out much higher.
I don't expect the iTV to be cheap and I will buy one. I paid $3500 a few years ago for a piece of shit Samsung HDTV. Sure, you can get HDTVs for a few hundred dollars now but think of those as net book computers.

A TV is something that most people still think about as hanging on to for many years - not like a smart phone that everyone wants to upgrade every year. So, a larger cost is justifiable in most folks minds. Yes, the original purchasers will be higher end purchasers but, considering the size of the market, that will be just fine with Apple.

There will many articles written about how the iTV is too expensive and people will buy millions of them.
