Barack H. Obama drops Hussein from the presidential oath

The Barack Hussein Obama of 2009 has been replaced in President Obama’s second inaugural celebration by “ Barack H. Obama.”

In taking the oath of office Monday morning before Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, Mr. Obama abbreviated his birth name, giving only the initial “H.”

Sen. Charles E. Schumer, chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, also referred to the president as Barack H. Obama in his introductory remarks for the public swearing-in ceremony.

Four years ago, the official inauguration schedule also referred to “ Barack H. Obama,” but Mr. Obama used his full name in taking the oath of office.

“I think the tradition is that they use all three names, and I will follow the tradition,” Mr. Obama told the Chicago Tribune in 2009. “I’m not trying to make a statement one way or another. I’ll do what everybody else does.”
