If we default, then we're really screwed, our country's credit rating would drop to FFFF... or something like that... the U.S. Dollar would no longer be desirable and everyone in the world would sell their dollars... in order to maintain currency order, we would have to raise interest rates to skyrocketing levels in order to keep dollar holders interested, this means the bond market would crash, and probably so would stocks, we would see an economic down turn which would make the 1930's Great Depression look like an amateur rehearsal... simply stated, it would be a total and mammoth economic disaster...
