Lindy, I was around then too, and what I remember is that you pretty much got the SAME treatment at the public charity hospital as you got at the most expensive hospital around. They just didn't have any real technology back then. My father had a heart attack at 56 and spent a week in the hospital. Their cure was bedrest. If it had happened today he would have had a bypass and statins and beta blockers and all that good new stuff. I know because the same thing happened to me and I'm still around annoying you on the internet. The new technology is the cause of these EXPLODING costs. I don't know what the answer is to pay for all that technology but I have a feeling that most people will want it regardless.
