I havent bought a printer cartridge for over a year now and I do tons of printing. I printed out a 500+ page (double sided) document with colour pictures last month.

I use a continuous ink system (CISS). The ink just costs are very low indeed as I buy bulk ink on ebay. Here is my provider in the uk, but there must be similar providers in most countries by now I think.

Care is needed to instal the system properly, if the ink reservoir is lifted above where it should be, ink can leak everywhere. I keep the ink in a berm so any leak is contained. It has worked for me just fine. A berm is easy enough to make and is best clamped in place so it cannot be accidently upset.

These systems are not made or recommended by the manufacturer, so its up to the individual user to decide if its best for him/her.

If I couldnt use a CISS system I would just throw my printer out. I cannot be bothered with the trouble and expense of those silly little cartridges we are expected to change and buy every 5 minutes. Half the ink supply probably gets used up priming the system.

There are many suppliers of bulk ink. Here is one example. 100 mils of black ink. £2:20.
