"People at all levels are capable of corruption-- governments, corporations, individuals... It is tiresome (and unfair) to hear govt singled out when there is plenty of blame to go around..."

Yes, we all can choose to act in violation of the rights of others....we form a govt in order to protect us against such violation, but the govt will only protect us if it does, in fact, use its force to protect us rather than violate us. This is why the specifics for the scope of govt action are so important, because if it uses its power to protect us, it makes life better, if it uses its force to violate our rights then it makes life almost unbearable.

The US constitution, bill of rights, separation of powers, state vs federal govts intended to check each other, were all carefully layed out by the founding fathers in an attempt to avoid the misuse of govt power....

Yep totally agree. Record wealth disparity, squeezing of the middle class and our bloated MIC the biggest stories.
