12/21/12 Contest Update Heading into the homestretch, it’s now a neck & neck race for the crown. ONTY’s collapse, following a failed clinical trial, sliced a big chunk out of GENE’s portfolio, which finished the week with a mere 139.42% YTD gain. Although GENE’s portfolio remains in first place, second place RKRW’s portfolio, up 135.15% YTD, is definitely in contention with five trading days still to go. BIOMAV’s portfolio, up 61.11% YTD, held on to third place. The looming fiscal cliff looked more looming as the week ended, but the broad indexes nonetheless wound up in positive territory. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 26.22% YTD (vs. up 27.16% YTD a week ago). In comparison, the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 33.90% YTD (vs. up 32.83% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 17.09% YTD (vs. up 14.06% YTD a week ago). At Friday's close, 6 of the 38 Contest portfolios remained in the red, with 13 of the 38 portfolios beating the NBI. Below is the Top Ten list.
