While there are some awesome and compelling cases of home defense that make the news : little girls huddling in closets talking to 911 and firing blindly through a closet door as the knob turns, it is more often the case that it is someone shooting a drunk son climbing in through the window because he dropped his keys in the yard or some guy who shoots his kid or roommate, or a kid shooting their sibling. The list goes on. MOST people will not be safer having a gun in the house that is readily accessible. This is coming from someone who has owned, cleaned, and fired guns since about 8. Yes, if you are in some situations it is probably better to have a fire arm. Most, not.

It is the same mentality as those people who used to say "I don't want to wear seat belts because I want to be thrown clear." While it is theoretically possible to survive without seat belts or even be killed because of seat belts it is not then normal result

There is an inexorable logic here - they indeed would be thrown clear through the windshield, often landing on rocks, getting run over by people swerving to avoid the main collision, or just end up "lost" like someone I heard about when I lived in Washington state 45 years ago. The poor chap or lady (I don't remember which) was lost until an odd and unbelievably foul odor was found to be emanating from the roof of the nearby gas station. So, yes they were thrown clear to spend their last moments not being found by emergency services, who spent considerable time looking around, only to die and decompose on top of a gas station...

Shhhh... googling would just disturb their deep and profound thoughts.

What can you do with folks running on obviously false premises? Premises they could easily check.
