Are you aware of the research that shows that upwards of 50% of gun owners improperly store their guns- and many of those folks have children in their homes? Surely there is a lot of room for improvement in America with regard to the American love affair with guns. The gun makes a rather sketchy mistress.

The sooner those of us who tend to the liberal side recognize that we're tilting at windmills and damaging ourselves in the process, the better. Ed I'll simply have to repeat myself. Your counsel is the counsel that fails to address the issue that desperately needs addressing, the need for serious gun control. You are simply saying to the NRA that they've won the struggle, that the rapid pace at which we are arming the civilian population can proceed. No one objects strongly enough to stop it. I have little interest in protecting the rights of hunters, etc., but no legislation I've seen has ever threatened that. As for folks wanting guns to protect themselves in their homes, it's a self defeating bit as the recent post I offered from Josh Marshall states, summarizing the only serious research on this subject around. Hopefully, the left will ignore advice from folk like you and organize to do something serious about the waves of guns now available and a political culture which seems to find news way to arm its citizens daily. Students and faculty with guns on college campuses. Please!!
