Just to muddy the waters a bit - there was a recent study that I stumbled across while looking at another chaos theory topic. It was that murder spreads like an epidemic and that the same analysis applies as for the spread of influenza. I don't know what to conclude from such a phenomenon or whether it has implications on gun control and ownership, but there is probably something there worth considering at a regulatory level. Maybe public outreach is more important than gun control as it is more important what you do with a gun than the fact you own one. livescience.com
