How much freedom should one lose before it does in fact reasonably be called slavery? When 60% of one's income is taken against one's will, it starts to look pretty close to slavery. Even slaves were allowed to eat a significant proportion of the value they created. They even had shelter provided.

Complaining about slavery and government is perfectly reasonable even if one does, as a slave or serf, receive some goods and services from the masters.
