There is a way the problem could be largely solved using more guns: Technology has progressed to the point were all public places, perhaps starting with schools and theaters, could be equipped with computer based vision guided automatic gun systems. If anyone pulled out a gun, they would die before they could pull the trigger. Eventually we could install them in every room of every house. Whats not to like about this?? It has the nice benefit of making it clear to even an idiot that owning and carrying a gun is unwise...
