"Now, with video games that are frighteningly lifelike, depicting "enemy" soldiers who explode into bloody messes at the touch of your controller, can anyone say that we're not breaking down the barriers most of us have to killing another human being?"

What can possibility be better than blood splattering on the lens?

Oy.

Maybe we need a video game where the guy gets blown up.." Not a bad suggestion; that's not doable, but there is no reason why we can't require 24-40 hrs of ER observation to graduate from HS. I think a lot already require community service. They don't have to work; just hang, out of the way, and listen to the groans and the weeping. Show them the consequences. Very few will prolly see shootings; we didn't have many at Ukiah, but there were also deaths which didn't make it to the hospital. One was a young man my kids grew up with.
Wouldn't hurt to sit thru a murder trial, either.
