I've seen in gun legislation hearings that a lot of the legislators don't even know the difference between an automatic weapon ( a machine gun ) and a semi-automatic that fires every time you pull the trigger. It's embarrassing and just supports the gun nuts case.

Ed, you used the word "scary" about guns in relation to those of us who support much more serious gun control, that we found guns to be such. It was a way to diminish the counter argument. It's much better just to address the argument. I have no idea just how comfortable you are with guns, nor do you have such about me.

It is difficult for me to understand why a bright and logical poster, such as yourself, would be so unabashedly supportive of spending political capital while at the same time strengthening the opposition's base by standing on an issue where he could voice no specific proposal that would either accomplish his goals or have any chance of passage. Ed

I'm learning a great deal about you, Ed. We'll have to discuss it sometime in some private emails.

On this topic, however, I've had my say. I don't see anything new in this post that provokes any new thoughts from me. I've said, as clearly as I'm capable of doing so, that it's time to end the Clinton era silence on gun control measures, to begin a national conversation on such. You think there is political difficulty in simply starting such a conversation. So we differ. We each think the other is wrong. If we get the national conversation, we'll have a chance to see.

"Bright and logical" folk can disagree with one another. I'm assuming you are such.
