I enjoy wisdom, whether modern or ancient. Proverbs is a book of wisdom that has lasted the test of time, so I enjoy it. The context of that particular text is a warning but need not be scary. The warning is to listen to more than one point of view. When something 'seems right', its a good idea to get some additional info before taking action. What women say about men seems right until a man's point of view is heard and visa versa. The same holds true for political camps, religions, race relations, nationality, age, philosophy etc.

The best decisions are made when all perspectives on an issue have been taken under consideration, the worst are made when you put all your trust in one social authority... don't think you have enough time for that??? time is really all you do have, so why not use it wisely. I suppose that is scary for dolts who are blindly led by the ring in their nose. Too often we see people take a stand on the first idea presented simply because it, “seemed like a good idea at the time .” Under further review, when other points of view are considered or when additional information comes available, what ‘seemed like a good idea at the time’ is often revealed as fool hardy, or as one's regrettable behavior … or the “famous last words" of persons who didn't consider broader counsel.

Proverbs 18:17 NCV

New Century Version

The person who tells one side of a story seems right, until someone else comes and asks questions.

I don’t see that as scary at all ... just smart.
