I would like to disqualify them from a number of activities, depending upon the nature the activity. I've had probably undiagnosed, but seemingly mentally ill teachers psychologically torture my child, saying and doing things that were hurtful, and in my opinion uncalled for... In one case a teacher pinched my student - a claim that my kid maintains in adulthood but the teacher vehemently denied. So, where to draw the line? - my problem with psychiatry is much the same as my notorious opinions about economists. Sorry.

Neither are as quantitative as I'd like and both are way more opinion based than I, as an engineer, feel comfortable with. So we might as well roll bones to determine who is mentally ill - it is only when the person has verbally shared ideation or has outward psychotic lapses that it becomes obvious. In those cases, probably best to restrict access to weapons. But they will still have access to fire accelerants, poisons and cutlery.
