Because they have a much larger welfare society as well as much higher debt to GDP ratios. But we will not be outdone. We're working to catch up on those metrics so that we can be as mediocre as they are. Not even close. I was shocked at how extensive the German safety network is.............and the Scandinavians have an even more extensive network. Hell..........the Norwegian jackass who killed all those students has a 3 room prison cell. And yet, Norway is one of the more capitalistic countries of the world.
