Withdrawing the lawsuits by Samsung makes sense. Their lawsuit is based on standards essential patents. Recently, US courts have struck down injunction requests based on these. The logic is that SIPs have to be licensed at a reasonable cost - so, patent infringement has to be remedied by licensing and not by banning products. Google/Mot also dropped some EU lawsuits against MSFT after such US rulings.
