Bill -- thanks for sharing the results of your visit. It confirms reports I have heard from others who made the trip . . . SGI is more attuned to technological rather than marketing problems. I have restudied the company -- and written a capsule description of the company featured on the SI newsletter . . . but they left out all my links!

I think a new CEO might bring a bit of new perspective to this rather insular company. However, I think there has been substancial improvement. I point to the terrific value of their O2 workstation at less than 6000 bucks,

and the success of their advanced scalable architecture in putting huge supercomputers together.

I believe this company is capable of making a lot of money is several very different markets. The next quarter is likely to be much better than their last (traditionally weak) quarter and might be quite good, if their server sales pick back up. I think the NT machine will remain a minor part of their master plan, but hell -- who knows? --JD
