Fed is somehow trying to prevent money from going into commodities, which is the usual game plan when they print and devalue the dollar, and into the "safety" of equities. It's probably to put a damper on inflation so they can continue printing big. I'm not sure exactly how they're doing it, but most likely it involves their primary dealers running big short positions.
