John was a retired physician who spent most of his career working in emergency rooms. He was a bright guy with a wide range of interests. He was widely read, loved music and, in his own words, had three "wonderful children." He spent most of his life in Miami, though he may have originally been from Boston. He was a graduate of MIT. He was an avid baseball fan and I was hoping to visit him some day to take in a White Sox-Marlins game (whenever the Sox got around to playing in Miami).

The last several years were difficult for John. He was involved in a serious automobile accident and spent several days in a coma. It took him quite a while to regain his physical and cognitive functions and he was prone to occasional bouts of anger.

He was a good guy, a very good guy.
