Raccoons are nasty little critters - shot one on the porch a fews years back myself. Day walker - probably had rabies. I agree "strong" means character but can be observed from actions as well.

Better than letting the mastiff continue to work on a barely live animal .. which it would have.

As a child I watched my parents and grandparents slaughter a hog in their backyard. I saw my grandmother chop the heads off innumerable chickens which we subsequently ate.

I'm reminded of an episode of some show which swapped Moms for a week or so ago for some unknown reason. Some city woman on a farm had her temporarily adopted family have a funeral for a chicken that died. The kids thought she was nuts. "Animals die," the daughter in the family said, "Where does she think our meat comes from?"
