Thanks for digging this out.

This is another confirmation that WDC is paying now, at a time when the profits are narrow, for the investments and product transitions that Quantum engineered over the past several months. It's amazing what some of the better analysts think about a few of their institutional clients - they think they are pretty stupid when it comes to investments in high tech stocks. That's why when the techs' are beaten up for a while you will hear fund managers say "I stay away from high tech stocks, you can't figure them out. . . give me something I can understand like GM or Coke". I think some of these guys got into being fund managers because they didn't have the brains to do honest work - like engineering or busing tables at the local restaurant.

<<Looking at the large-block sell-orders going through, I think a fund just used this
announcement as an excuse to clear more of their QNTM positions...to what I'm not
sure, but I heard Fidelity was dumping just about all of their tech holdings...Compaq
was mentioned in particular, by a fund analyst.>>
While I would have given Fidelity more credit than this, I believe they owned something like 10% of Quantum and could easily account for carnage like this. If so, and Quantum is being sold because it is a tech stock rather than on its own fundamentals, it would not seem a smart move. That said, when Fidelity has sold before and I have held they have been right. They seem to do their own research pretty well.
It would be interesting to know if Fidelity is really selling.
