Most clear thinking people always plan for the best and prepare for the worst. Speaking for myself ... I would not dictate to others what is best for them.

I prefer headlines like : Mother shoots intruder

rather than :

Family of 5 murdered by intruder.

Clearly what you know about such things is limited at best.

The odds of being the victim of a forcible entry each year are about 1%, compared to 1 in a million for lightning. In other words, significantly greater than the chances of being struck by lightning. 9 in every 1000 households each year is not trivial.
