Here's several more questons. I heard Lanza tried to buy a weapon but was rejected ......ostensibly because he did not want to WAIT for a background check. Was is because of the wait or the fact that a background check would have detected something and been rejected. Would the background check have denied him or not?
What does a background check involve? How long does it take? I've heard that background checks are only required to be done when a gun dealer sells a gun. But at a gun show, many guns are bought and sold between private individuals. So......no background check? If these background checks are done on a computerized basis, they should be able to be done in a reasonable amount of time and be required in all sales......whether by a dealer or a private individual. I assume we could put a program in place whereby an individual could initiate a background check ......have an answer within several weeks......and then have an approved check valid for a stated period of time......to present at a gun show for an immediate purchase. I would favor that in a heart beat. Make it happen..
