We're operating under the hope that a new and slightly more moderate Congress will be willing to pass the 98% solution on Day 2 or 3, after they elect officers and knock on wood, change the filibuster rule.
Also, the hope that defense spending gets whacked. That won't cause any problems, cuz we all know that the government doesn't create jobs.

<<Most are of the opinion that it will brake the recovery and push us back into recession, as a minimum>>

Krugman is not particularly worried about it and it doesn't have to happen at all if the congress votes in a stimulus package, which would be the correct formula.

Let the bush tax cuts expire and then vote in a jobs bill. That would be the intelligent way to do it, but we never seem to discuss the intelligent way of doing things; all we ever seem to discuss are reactions to right wingers crazy stuff and what we "think we can get", seldom what we really need to do and fight for that.

How in the hell would anyone know what the best path is if no one discusses it?

I am trying to find out what Stiglitz thinks.
