IN the previous negotiations that resulted in the sequester agreement, Boehner had come to an agreement with the president which the president then walked away from. A deal had been struck, and obama then demanded more taxes.

You don't just recover from that kind of blunder. For the remainder of his presidency, those members of Congress who were screwed in that deal will not forget it.

Anyone who has done negotiating for a living will tell you that credibility is everything, and once you lose the other side's trust you're finished. Obama did that, and it makes it very difficult for an agreement to be reached.

When members of Congress have their asses hanging out and a deal collapses, they're going to think twice before putting themselves in that position again.

Every year a record is set in the Senate for number of filibusters held. And usually by a wide margin.

Not only that but this past year was the most do nothing Congress in the past 100 years. It has produced very little legislation while embarrassing the hell out of this country's global standing.
