Same Networks that Ignored Clinton Scandals run Cain Story 50 Times in Less Than Four Days

Over a period of just three and a half days, NBC, CBS and ABC have developed an insatiable hunger for the Herman CAIN sexual harassment story, devoting an incredible 50 stories to the allegations since Monday morning.

In contrast, over a similar period these networks mostly ignored far more substantial and serious scandals relating to Bill Clinton. This pattern continued on Wednesday night and into Thursday as the evening newscasts and morning shows highlighted the story 19 times. On Good Morning America, Brian Ross offered innuendo and slung gossip, recounting, "But behind the scenes, several of the campaigns are still urging reporters to continue to dig, George, saying, there's more to be found in the private life of Herman Cain."

David Gregory Doubles Down in Racist Attempt to Destroy Cain
.............................................................................................................
NBC’s David Gregory: GOP has no “Grand Wizard” to force out Cain

11/09/2011 | Ed Morrissey
hotair.com

Well, that makes sense. After all, the political party of the Ku Klux Klan wasn’t the Republicans, was it? Click the image to watch:

CLICK ABOVE LINK FOR THE VIDEO

Ann Curry, NBC News: “He’s not stepping down, continuing to suck the air out of the narrative the Republican party really wants to tell. Does the party now wish he would just go away?”

David Gregory, NBC News: “Well there is no, you know, grand wizard in the party right now who can really force the issue. I’ve talked to Cain’s advisers in Iowa, they think their support is still strong there, that it’s not falling. There may be cracks in the foundation according to pollsters I’m talking to, that his numbers may be starting to shift but right now core support remains there.”

So … what’s the implication here? That the Democratic Party has “grand wizards” that can boot candidates out of presidential races against their will? That’s absurd on the face of it, and all anyone has to do is note Dennis Kucinich’s two runs at the Presidency for proof. Parties lost the explicit ability to control the candidates when the open primary began prevailing over the open convention model. It’s true that political-party establishments can coax or discourage candidacies at every level, but that doesn’t work when the candidate doesn’t hold any elective office at the moment and has enough money to run his or her own campaign.

Besides the jaw-dropping reference to the Klan, the statement is absurd on its face anyway. It’s the same as lamenting that a Deus ex machina doesn’t actually exist to solve a specific, momentary problem of any kind. Those only existed in Greek theater, not real life, much like the “grand wizards” in Gregory’s head that handpick candidates for presidential races.

Update: Let’s enter the Wayback Machine and recall this catch by Newsbusters from six months ago (via HA reader Pain Train):

GREGORY: First of all, you gave a speech in Georgia with language a lot of people think could be coded racially-tinged language, calling the president, the first black president, a food stamp president.

GINGRICH: Oh, come on, David.

GREGORY: What did you mean? What was the point?

REP. GINGRICH: That’s, that’s bizarre. That–this kind of automatic reference to racism, this is the president of the United States. The president of the United States has to be held accountable. Now, the idea that–and what I said is factually true. Forty-seven million Americans are on food stamps. One out of every six Americans is on food stamps. And to hide behind the charge of racism? I have–I have never said anything about President Obama which is racist.

Can someone please take the race card out of Gregory’s less-than-full deck, please?

Update II: Via an NBC News e-mail, David Gregory apologized for the comment on Twitter later:

“Wizard” remark this morning was a very poor choice of words. Did not mean to make that connection at all. Was not thinking. I apologize

Clinton accuser Willey: No call from Allred
..........................................................
11/9/11 WLS Radio’s John Dempsey Reports
wlsam.com

CHICAGO (WLS) - Former Bill Clinton accuser Kathleen Willey says politics may have something to do with the sexual harassment allegations against Republican Presidential candidate Herman Cain.

Willey tell WLS Radio’s Don Wade and Roma Show that feminist attorney Gloria Allred, who represents Cain accuser Sharon Bialek, did not return her phone calls several years ago.

LISTEN: Kathleen Willey joins Don Wade & Roma - Click Here

"I called Gloria Allred and asked her to help me. I never got a return phone call. That was something else down the line that I needed help with, it was after what I went through, and I thought it was an issue that she would be interested in. She never called me back. She's only gonna take the case that's gonna help, you know, the Democrats".

Willey believes Allred did not want to help her because she had accused Democratic President Bill Clinton of groping her in the oval office. Willey levels a similar charge against the National Organization for Women, which she says also refused to return her phone calls.

Willey also says she believes Herman Cain is sincere in his denials, based on his willingness to take a lie-detector test about the allegations against him.

Why did the same "news" media that blacked out Juanita Broderick, Kathleen Willey, made nothing of Bill Clinton's $850,000 settlement with Paula Jones, defended Bill Clinton in his Lewinsky lies, and made nothing of Ted Kennedy's causing Mary Jo Kopechne's death

now suddenly go rabidly after Herman Cain for 'allegations' ?

Ultimate Prize In Cain Smear: The Black Vote
................................................................................
By THOMAS SOWELL 11/9/2011
news.investors.com

The real scandal in the accusations against Herman Cain is the corruption of the law, the media and politics.

Let's start with the law. Some people may think the fact that the National Restaurant Association reportedly paid $45,000 to settle a claim made by one of its employees against Mr. Cain is incriminating.

Most of us are not going to part with 45 grand without some serious reason. But that is very different from the situation of an organization in the present legal climate.

The figure $45,000 struck a chord with me because, some years ago, my wife — who is an attorney — was fervently congratulated when her client had to pay "only" $45,000 in a jury award when the plaintiff was demanding a million dollars, in a case that was as frivolous a lawsuit as you could find.

The person who was suing was a drunk driver, whose car went out of control and slammed into a tree. After the sheriff's deputies arrested her, she sued them on dubious charges, and the sheriff's department was glad it had to pay "only" $45,000.

The department was painfully aware of the uncertainty about what ruinous costs a jury might impose on the deputies.

The real scandal goes far beyond the case of Herman Cain and his accusers. The real scandal is that the law allows people to impose heavy costs on others at little or no cost to themselves. That is a perfect setting for legalized extortion.

The fact that neither judges nor juries always stick to the letter of the law means that people who have zero basis for a lawsuit, under the law as written, can still create enough uncertainty to extract money from people who cannot afford the risk of going to trial.

As for a $45,000 settlement, that is what an organization would pay to settle a nuisance lawsuit — if they are lucky.

If we had a legal system where judges threw frivolous cases out of court instead of letting them go to trial, that would put a damper on legalized extortion.

If those who bring charges that do not stand up in court had to pay the other party for their legal fees — and should have to pay for their time as well — these games could not go on.

It turns out that the women making televised charges against Herman Cain have past histories that do not inspire confidence, including in at least one case a history of making similar complaints against others.

Another woman who has come forward tells of Herman Cain asking her, at some conference, to see if she could locate some woman in the audience who had asked him a question, so that he could take her to dinner. This apparently struck her as suspicious. This too reminded me of something I knew about personally. Many years ago, I was at a conference where a woman made some very insightful comments, and I took her to lunch to continue the discussion.

It so happens she was a nun. Contrary to cynics, there is more than one reason for a man to take a woman to lunch or dinner.

The same mainstream media whose responses to proven charges against Bill Clinton was, "Let's move on," is not about to move on from unproven charges against Herman Cain.

What role does race play in all this?

It is probably not racism, as such, that motivates these attacks on Herman Cain. The motivation is far more likely to be politics, but politics makes a prominent black conservative like Clarence Thomas or Herman Cain far more dangerous to the Democrats than an equally prominent white conservative.

The 90% black vote for Democrats is like money in the bank on election day. A prominent black conservative who offers an alternative view of the world is a serious danger politically, because if that alternative view has the net effect of reducing the black vote for Democrats just to 75%, the Democrats are in big trouble at election time.

In this political context, merely defeating a black conservative at the polls or at confirmation hearings is not enough. He must be destroyed as an influence in the future — and character assassination is the most obvious way to do it.

Cain Under Fire by media that ignored Clinton, JFK Sexcapades
...............................................................................................................
November 10, 2011 by Larry Elder
townhall.com

"He's got it coming to him," said Ben Bradlee, former editor of The Washington Post. "You can't do that in this town anymore. Probably could do it 50 years ago, but you can't do it now."

The "he" was Herman Cain. The "that" means sexual harassment. And the "got it coming" means the media firestorm around the Republican front-runner as he deals with the sexual misconduct accusations that threaten to derail Cain's surprisingly strong candidacy.

Bradlee made the Cain comment while at a book party for MSNBC host Chris Matthews' new biography about the Democratic Party's icon, John F. Kennedy, handsome, dashing and forever young -- who screwed around big-time on his popular and elegant wife. When asked what he liked about Matthews' new book, Bradlee said, "I like the guy who wrote it, and I like the guy he wrote it about."

The irony seemed to be lost on Mr. Bradlee.

Bradlee wags his finger at Cain for alleged "sexual harassment" and insists, "He's got it coming to him." But on the same night, Bradlee celebrates a man who not only serially cheated, but who jeopardized national security by sleeping with the girlfriend of a big-time Chicago mobster.

Certainly, "it was a different time," with the all-male reporter's boys club looking the other way. But Kennedy kept his affairs secret from wife and country for a reason. Trying telling your wife -- even in the '60s -- "Honey, this afternoon -- when you're out with your lunch friends -- I'm throwing a nude pool party. There may be, some, you know, some 20-something young ladies, some actually wearing bathing suits. Oh, then I'm going out with the girlfriend of a gangster. Don't wait up."

"Certainly, dear"??? "Have a good time"??? "I'll leave the porch light on for you"???

Not likely. Even in the '60s, on a deal like this, Harriet ditches Ozzie, June leaves Ward, and Lucy drops Ricky.

And if 15-year-old allegations of "sexual harassment" rate high on the Democrats' character scale, please explain the deification of Bill Clinton. OK, he balanced the budget. But there was ...

Paula Jones: About whom a Clinton surrogate said, "If you drag a $100 bill through a trailer park, you never know what you'll find." Apparently you find $850K to settle a lawsuit. Clinton accused Jones of lying about sexual harassment and filing a lawsuit that lacked merit, then settled the case out of court for $850K.

Gennifer Flowers: Clinton surrogates trashed her as a "saloon singer." (Do we even still have "saloons"?) Clinton publicly called her a liar. Years later, Clinton finally admitted that, yes, Flowers told the truth when she said their relationship had been sexual.

Monica Lewinsky: Clinton publicly accused the White House intern of lying; then lied about the affair under oath; became the first sitting president in history to be found in contempt of court; was impeached for lying under oath and obstruction of justice -- the first and only elected president to have been impeached; and temporarily lost his law license.

Kathleen Willey: Told "60 Minutes" that she visited Bill Clinton in the Oval Office, where, she says, Clinton hugged and kissed her. When she tried to push him away, "he touched my breasts with his hand ... and then he whispered ... 'I've wanted to do this ever since I laid eyes on you.' ... He took my hand, and he put it ... on his genitals." Finally, says Willey, she managed to push him away. In a classic exercise in rationalization, feminist Gloria Steinem said, So what? "Even if (Willey's) accusation are true," Steinem insisted, Clinton is "not guilty of sexual harassment." Why? Well, Steinem wrote, "(Willey) pushed him away, she said, and it never happened again. In other words, President Clinton took 'no' for an answer.

Juanita Broaddrick: Told NBC News that then-Arkansas Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Bill Clinton raped her: "I first pushed him away. I just told him 'no.' ... He tries to kiss me again. He starts biting on my lip. ... And then he forced me down on the bed. I just was very frightened. I tried to get away from him. I told him 'no.' ... He wouldn't listen to me."

GOP haters delight in denouncing former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich as "the guy who served divorce papers on his wife as she was in the hospital for cancer." But as to JFK, the sexually reckless president from Camelot? Hey, whatever.

The National Enquirer, not the "mainstream" media, broke the story about John Edwards' love child and his long extramarital affair -- as his wife was dying of cancer. But the same slow-on-Edwards media snapped to attention on the Cain allegations. Are the Cain allegations newsworthy, legitimate areas for media investigation? Absolutely. Sexual misconduct and the gravity of the misconduct go to the issue of character.

Except, of course, when applied to Bill Clinton and Jack Kennedy.

Why the Establishment Wants to Destroy Herman Cain By Dr. Alveda King
.........................................................................
By Dr. Alveda King November 09, 2011

Dr. Alveda King is civil rights and pro-life activist. She is the niece of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
foxnews.com

There are two reasons the liberal media can’t get enough of the Herman Cain smear campaign:

1. They would rather report unsubstantiated allegations and gossip than report the real issues, because talking about the real issues would not be in the best interest of the president.

President Obama is traveling around the country, proposing a stimulus bill that has already failed once. Instead of having an honest discussion about whether or not a plan that already failed once will fail again, the establishment would rather distract the American people with gossip.

The amount of time spent talking about this ridiculous smear campaign while the country is in an economic crisis, shows that the liberal media's agenda is not to keep people informed, but to keep people distracted from failed establishment economic policies.

2. The establishment is threatened by a strong conservative with such a large platform.

For many years, the Democrats have had a 90% stranglehold on the black vote. This is because many blacks feel that Republicans are racist and only care about the rich, while Democrats love them, give Blacks welfare, betc. When a strong, charismatic, BLACK conservative goes head to head with Obama, many blacks who have not yet done so will actually listen to both sides of the political argument.

They will hear Mr. Cain say that the entitlements given to them don't help the black community. When Mr. Cain says that welfare is statistically like a disease that is passed from generation to generation, that it promotes by Text-Enhance">single mothers, that it promotes a culture of helplessness and government dependency, people will listen.

When Mr. Cain says I will give you opportunities to improve your by Text-Enhance">quality of life: jobs so that you don't need government handouts to survive, that the government will teach people to fish rather than give them fish sticks...people will listen.

Mr. Cain would structurally change the voting demographic. There would be more black economic conservatives, and the Democrats would lose their stranglehold on the black vote. The establishment is threatened by that, so they will try to assassinate Mr. Cain’s character, hoping he doesn't get the chance to go head to head with President Obama.

If the general election features two black men of opposing political views, and Black America hears an honest political debate, the establishment will lose a portion of their 90 percent stranglehold on the black vote.

Let me be very clear about what I mean when I say “the establishment.” There are people on both sides of the aisle and beyond who are disturbed by Mr. Cain’s unorthodox campaign. He rocks the proverbial boat so to speak. So, it’s not entirely about party politics. So for the purpose for this discussion, "establishment" means resistance to truth from every sector.

The establishment, which includes the Obama camp is terrified of what Mr. Cain represents.

Herman Cain is the epitome of the American dream. He grew up poor and worked his way to success, following an ethic he inherited from his father and mother, and with a degree he earned at an historically black school, Morehouse College, where my uncle, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., also was an alumnus.

Mr. Cain is the fulfillment of Uncle M. L.’s dream. He has lived the black American experience in the South. By the content of his character, not the color of his skin, he has studied hard, worked hard, enjoyed success in business and now aspires to the office of president of the United States. Like Martin Luther King, he is a minister of the Gospel of Jesus. He is not a career politician but out of love for his country, he seeks now to lead.

If we have an honest discussion on whether the war on poverty should be fought with welfare or with economic growth in the private sector, Democrats will lose black votes.

When Mr. Cain says abortion is bad business, is hurting America and denying our youngest the civil right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, that is a dangerous discussion for the Democrats and their pro-abortion platform.

The Kennedy-Dodd Waitress Sandwich Information Clearinghouse
.................................................................................................................................
sonsoftherepublic.blogspot.com

Chris Dodd, recalling the good old days.

To satisfy everyone's curiosity, we offer the following, compiled from various sources:

In 1985, Dodd and fellow Senator Ted Kennedy were out (with dates) for a night on the town at La Brasserie. Much liquor was consumed--that will come as a shock to those of us familiar with Ted Kennedy--and the two Senators were at one point unaccompanied by their dates. The Senators made a "Waitress Sandwich" out of some poor, unsuspecting waitress.

If you're not entirely sure what that means, let's just say you wouldn't want to be the waitress.

Article clip, from the Hartford Courant:

"Dodd and Kennedy were also reported to have made a 'human sandwich' with a waitress at La Brasserie, another Capitol Hill restaurant. The report had it that Kennedy threw the woman on Dodd, who was slumped in a chair, and then jumped on top of her. She was said to have run screaming from the room."

Summary of 1989 Penthouse magazine article, summarized by the Washington Times:

"When she put in an appearance in their private retreat - 'The Teddy Kennedy Fun Room' - the Massachusetts senator picked her up and heaved her onto a table. The crystal candlesticks and champagne glasses shattered as he grabbed her again and flung her on top of Dodd.

"Then Kennedy threw himself on top of the woman. The waitress implored Mr. Kennedy to 'Get off me!'

"Another waitress entered to find 'things all tipped over and Kennedy was on top, [the waitress] was in the middle and Dodd was on the bottom.' At that point the sandwich was disassembled."

Washington Post, August 5, 2005

La Brasserie, a French restaurant on Capitol Hill, closed last month, after a 27-year history of catering to political bigwigs and Hollywood A-listers.

"It was quite a Hill institution," said Lynne Breaux, executive director of the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington, who has eaten there several times. "It was a lovely restaurant."

La Brasserie was located in a town house on Massachusetts Avenue Northeast. It served such politicos as the late Sen. Daniel Moynihan, New York Democrat, former Vice President Al Gore and the late Rep. Sonny Bono, California Republican, as well as actors like Jimmy Stewart, Paul Newman and Jane Fonda, [and who could forget Ted Kennedy and Chris Dodd making unique contributions to our sandwich menu] said Lynne Campet, a former co-owner of the restaurant.

"A lot of important people dined there," she said.

Mrs. Campet and her husband, Raymond, bought the restaurant in 1978 with Gaby and Marie Aubouin. At the time, it was a Greek-owned restaurant called Maxim's and previously a cafe called La Ruche.

Mr. Campet and Mr. Aubouin, who worked at the French Embassy together, built the restaurant into a neighborhood favorite. The outdoor patio was "very special," Mrs. Campet said, adding that diners sought the tables under the property's big tree.

The 2003 Zagat Survey, which rates restaurants in different markets, said La Brasserie's terrace "transports one to Paris."

The French-inspired menu included such items as the cold three pepper soup, crabmeat and mozzarella lasagna, homemade tarts and creme brulee.

In 1992, the restaurant was sold to sisters Audrey and Karinne Dequeker, who could not be reached for comment yesterday.

The Slime that is Politico
...............................................................................

MSNBCPOLITICO: A commanding presence for Politico on the left’s favorite cable news channel

11/14/2011
dailycaller.com

Has MSNBC opened a bureau in Arlington, Virginia?

Watch the assertively liberal cable news channel on an average day, and you’re likely to see someone from Politico appearing on-screen with the publication’s newsroom and logo in the background — perhaps on multiple occasions.

An analysis of one week of MSNBC’s broadcasts, starting at 6 a.m. Monday, Nov. 7 and ending Sunday, Nov. 13 at 12 p.m., identified at least 24 appearances by Politico reporters and editors. MSNBC has allotted regular segments to Politico during its broadcast day, including the “Political Playbook” segment on “Morning Joe” and the “Political Briefing” segment on “Andrea Mitchell Reports.”

But even without those two regular segments, the newsroom studio in Politico’s suburban Virginia headquarters is a regular fixture on MSNBC’s air. Over the course of last week, the majority of MSNBC’s daily shows — nine out of 16 — showcased at least one Politico employee.

The relationship between the two media outlets extends beyond merely inviting Politico’s reporters on MSNBC. On March 30, during an interview on Hugh Hewitt’s syndicated radio show, Politico editor-in-chief John Harris defended NBC News, MSNBC and “Hardball” host Chris Matthews against charges that the cable channel’s left-leaning hosts could unfairly influence his organization’s news coverage, particularly because Politico and MSNBC co-hosted a Republican presidential debate.

“Well, I just don’t accept the premise and I don’t accept your premise about Chris Matthews, who I admire,” Harris said. “In any event, Chris Matthews is not the moderator of this debate — Brian Williams, who is going to be bringing his journalistic reputation, his journalistic values to bear, just as I will be, Hugh, as the other moderator.”

Not exclusive to MSNBC

Despite the close ties to MSNBC, Politico reporters do appear on other cable channels. Politico’s Kenneth Vogel, for example, is a regular guest on Current TV’s “Countdown with Keith Olbermann.” Politico national political reporters Alexander Burns and David Catanese, and Politico White House reporter Joe Williams, have also appeared on that effervescently left-wing cable program.

Other Politico reporters have appeared on CNN, especially in the weeks since Politico first reported by Text-Enhance">sexual harassment allegations against Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain.

No Politico reporters on Fox

One network that does not host Politico reporters is Fox, the largest cable news network. A search of Fox News Channel transcripts indicates it has been 18 months — going back to May 2010 — since a Politico reporter or editor has appeared on its programs. The reason? According to a Fox News representative, Politico reporters do not appeal to Fox’s audience. “We try to book guests that make for compelling TV; Politico reporters tend not to rate well,” a Fox News spokesperson told The Daily Caller.

Fox News hosts have also openly criticized Politico. “Fox & Friends” co-host Steve Doocy has attacked the news outlet on multiple occasions, calling Politico a “left-wing blog” in December 2010.

Allegations of liberal bias

Others outside of Fox have charged Politico with having a left-of-center bias as well, especially in the wake of its coverage of the Cain scandal. Politico published more than 90 stories on the topic in the first five days of the story. By the end of the first week, according to one online count, Politico had published a total of 138 Cain-related stories; during the same period, the publication ran only nine stories about the Solyndra loan-guarantee scandal that has dogged the Obama administration, and just three about the equally contentious Operation Fast and Furious.

“Sadly, Herman Cain’s predictions have come true,” Media Research Center Brent Bozell said in a statement last week. “In May he stated that he was ‘ready for the same high-tech lynching that [Clarence Thomas] went through — for the good of this country.’ That’s what Politico is doing with its unsubstantiated and thoroughly hypocritical hit piece against him.”

Even before the Cain sexual-harassment story, critics accused Politico of sympathizing with liberal causes. In 2009, then-Politico media reporter Michael Calderone wrote that Ben Smith, Mike Allen and Lisa Lerer — all Politico news personnel — participated “with several hundred left-leaning bloggers, political reporters, magazine writers, policy wonks and academics” in the liberal JournoList online discussion forum.

Despite these and other allegations of bias, Politico has continued to insist that its coverage — and that of the mainstream press more generally — is non-ideological and non-partisan.

“Yes, in the closing weeks of this election, John McCain and Sarah Palin are getting hosed in the press, and at Politico,” Politico co-founders John Harris and Jim VandeHei wrote during the 2008 presidential election. “We’d take an educated guess — nothing so scientific as a Pew study — that Obama will win the votes of probably 80 percent or more of journalists covering the 2008 election. … [But] of the factors driving coverage of this election … ideological favoritism ranks virtually nil.”

Politico did not respond on Friday afternoon to The Daily Caller’s questions about its relationship with MSNBC.
