Why is gun violence in Canada so low?

Approximately 70 percent of the total murders in the U.S. are committed with firearms, versus about 30 percent in Canada. [20]

The only REAL, UNBIASED consensus is there isn't statistical proof one way or the other, which would rather strongly suggest that gun control as any kind of panacea has itself failed (after all, had the draconian measure worked, we would surely see irrefutable evidence that gun violence had been reduced; evidence which does not exist).

One has to be really careful with articles and "studies" on the topic...authors are often advocates of special interests...for instance one often mentioned study was authored by a woman who, it turns out, is a member of an Australian gun and hunting advocacy group akin to our NRA...

I am not sure that there is much doubt that fewer guns in Australia resulted in fewer gun related crime/murder. Here's what the Australian government says...

Furthermore, murders using firearms have declined even more sharply than murders in general since the 1996 gun law. In the seven years prior to 1997, firearms were used in 24 percent of all Australian homicides. But most recently, firearms were used in only 11 percent of Australian homicides, according to figures for the 12 months ending July 1, 2007. That’s a decline of more than half since enactment of the gun law to which this message refers.

Furthermore there is ample evidence world wide that the prevalence of guns in nearly any society is proportional to gun related death/crime...Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia of course...you name it.
