Is this a "can't figure out where to plug in the component cables" issue or is it more of an input selection issue on the new tv?

I'd buy something new if it was a very simple hook up.
Ken,

It doesn't get much simpler than using an HDMI cable. Literally plug in one end to the Blu-Ray player and the other into the TV. If your existing unit doesn't have HDMI pop about $125 and get a WiFi enabled BluRay player. You can then use it for Pandora, Hulu, Netflix, etc (if you pick the right one). The Panasonic Viera models support Amazon Instant Video.

Happy New Year to you and to all here.
