I read the short book "The Great Bust Ahead" yesterday and reviewed key parts today. The original copyright date is 2002 most recent is 2006. The author describes demographics as the big issue. I went looking for current proof and found it here - census.gov See page 4. Begin at 65-69 years and work back up the page to the 50-54 year old group. Compare "both sexes" totals for each year group in the 2000 column with the 2010 column. The author predicted this bubble and sees it as the fundamental demographic change that will lead us to a severe depression. One example - I am 68. There were 25% more 68 Year olds in America in 2010 than in 2000 and that number has increased since then and will continue to increase. Not only are these folks earning less, they are drawing more and more benefits. And the decrease and increase in those numbers is accelerating. The saying, "Hoisted by our own petard" come to mind. The author makes other key observations. As far as I can tell his predictions are accurate so far. The book is available on Amazon for a few bucks. Hat tip - Neeka
