Thanks for all that info. I've moved on from the frustration of making this work as it really should. I'd still be watching (and be happy with) my old 25 inch tube type TV but the darn thing quit on me after only 12 years! The new flat screen I bot is 50 inches and, i hope, is the last TV I'll ever buy. I'm not much of a TV watcher. I like baseball and football, very little basketball and practically nothing else other than the daily news. I now get all that in HD, which is remarkable and I like it a lot.

As far as my old VCR tapes, I'll do without them until I take the time to mess with the hookup again. The DVDs are fine by using the laptop and the new HDMI cable. As it is, I have to disconnect the HDMI cable from the Comcast box and plug the new one in from the laptop. Fortunately, all of it is easily reached without pulling stuff away from the wall. The DVDs I have are all art instruction videos, which actually are best used on the laptop as it sits on top of my drawing table. I can pause the vid, practice what I've just watched then go back to the rest of the vid. Watching it on a 50 inch screen isn't necessary at all.

I'll save your note, as well as all the input from Raptech, for the day I decide to attempt this again. It may just have to wait until my son pays me a visit from Wyoming. He's more patient than me, by far.

Thanks again!
