We are more alike in our style than you probably realize

Truth be told, a large % of all my portfolios are long term in nature. My investment practice is really a long term approach in hopes of getting 8%+ until retirement through a balanced mix of divvy, growth, value and international equities and vehicles.

My nature and unchecked tendencies have always been trader based. When it all comes down to it, I trade with about 10% of my total funds. The rest are in 401k, Roth, and non tax advantaged accounts. But that 10% allows me enough room to feed my tendencies and true passion enough to keep the other 90% safe and working in a more traditional way.

If I were able to trade my entire portfolio now, or through the years, I would be MUCH further ahead but I just can't risk the "what if" scenarios. And honestly, nor should anyone. In these markets, it's a very fine line between gambling and a knowledge-based skill/activity. Recognizing the gambling aspect is key.

Cheers!
