Re the comment contrasting shotguns and assault weapons. I'm under the opinion that shotguns ARE assault weapons. And are used as such by both military and police forces. That is certainly true in some circumstances. But shotguns are very short range weapons. My A Teams never carried them. Excellent for certain targets as in shooting clay pigeons (trap shooting for sport) and game birds. I like a 12ga pump with birdshot in the house. Especially if there are kids in the house. If you have to shoot, the walls will absorb the shot. On a dark quiet night, I believe most intruders will immediately flee when they hear the unmistakable sound of someone jacking a round into a12 ga.
