Spectrum Signal Processing and Central Research Laboratories Join Forces to Provide Total DSP System Solutions

BURNABY, British Columbia, Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Spectrum Signal Processing (Nasdaq: SSPIF - news; TSE: SSY - news) and Central Research Laboratories Limited (CRL) today announced a partnership agreement to supply DSP system solutions to various DSP markets worldwide. The CRL/Spectrum partnership combines leading DSP product solutions from Spectrum Signal Processing with the technical and applications expertise of CRL. This partnership results in the definitive source for complete DSP system solutions -- from feasibility analysis to complete systems.

CRL provides additional expertise to 'glue' Spectrum products into a wide range of turnkey application specific solutions. This complementary partnership presents an excellent opportunity to penetrate Europe and further increase the worldwide sales of Spectrum's DSP product solutions. With the addition of CRL's authoritative technical and applications expertise, Spectrum expects this partnership to contribute significant bookings to the Company's revenue in 1998.

Brian Lowe, VP of Sales at Spectrum, comments, ''The addition of a value added reseller in the UK allows Spectrum direct, one-on-one sales representation into key accounts. The position and skills held by CRL will have a positive effect on our ability to penetrate key accounts faster, consequently expediting revenue by six months to one year.''

This partnership provides CRL with easy access to board level products required to construct complete systems, and results in an efficient transition between the Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) products Spectrum offers and the broader system solutions increasingly sought by end users and OEM's. It also plays a key role in CRL's strategy of building close ties with DSP silicon and board level companies in order to supply systems that integrate the best available components.

''In providing a total application solution rather than a set of technical building blocks, CRL brings a refreshing approach to the market,'' states Dr. John White, Managing Director of CRL. He continues, ''As the originator of a number of signal processing world firsts such as the CAT medical scanner, we recognize the importance of solutions that reflect application requirements as well as technical capability. Being a premier DSP product provider to companies such as Nortel, IBM, NEC and the US Department of Defense, Spectrum was a natural choice for CRL in helping us provide more complete solutions to our customers.''

CRL's ability to assess, innovate and specify objective cost-effective solutions draws directly from their application-oriented expertise in algorithm, software and hardware design. By adding Spectrum's industry- leading off-the-shelf product solutions and expertise consisting of ASIC, software, digital radio and other board level products, this partnership will enable CRL to provide customers with fully integrated turnkey solutions aimed at solving application problems or speeding time-to-market.

Throughout its 68 year history CRL has employed technical specialists who can undertake the following: feasibility analysis, specification derivation, algorithm design, hardware and software design, system design and integration. CRL has key signal processing innovations covering the medical, military, video, audio and communication application areas. These include the Nobel prize winning CAT scanner, airborne radar, 3D sound and electronic watermarking. CRL is part of Scipher Ltd. and is an associated company of The EMI Group. The Company is ISO9001 quality certified, can be found at www.crl.co.uk, and is located at Dawley Road Hayes, Middlesex, United Kingdom. + 44 (0) 181 848 6516; fax + 44 (0) 181 848 6682.

Spectrum Signal Processing is the world's leading supplier of DSP system solutions. The company offers DSP software, off-the-shelf hardware, custom ASIC design and complete custom systems. Customers such as Nortel, Hewlett Packard, Northrop Grumman, NEC, Daewoo Telecom, IBM, the US Department of Defense and Lockheed Martin benefit from Spectrum's innovative, programmable DSP products, by gaining competitive advantages such as faster time to market and low-cost feature set upgradeability. Spectrum Signal Processing is publicly traded on Nasdaq NMS under the symbol SSPIF and on the TSE under the symbol SSY. [ SSPIF TA ] Hi, Pat.

>> Any thoughts on SSPIF today? <<

I have todays data now and I don't really have 'many' thoughts but here's what I'm thinking.

You've heard me mention an 8to10 New Price Low? Well there is also an 8to10 New Price High it's pretty Rare. If SSPIF is working on that pattern it's on day 6 now. Could be 2 or more up days to go. Sometimes the uptrend stops after day 6.

The 100DMA and the 89DMA are both near the Low today near 6.68 so this should be an area of support. The 50 is near 6.56 ... more support.

It's bound to consolidate .... sometime though.

But it doesn't loook like it yet.

BTW: CREAF (PE in the 8's) is showing an 8to10 New Price Low on day 9 today. I think it may have found some support this afternoon. It would be more safe on day 11 .... or after it shows a Reversal Candle but I'm thinking it may not go lower than the Low today (or even to the 20.00 mark). But's it's tough to guess for sure today .. still showing a Black Candle. But I think the Blue Light Special was today.

Where is that John Morrison anyway?

Happy Holidays,

Ray
