Cosmicforce, somehow this entire discussion has gotten warped it seems to me. I am only making one point.

One point: It is my opinion that most people and universities misunderstand how much the average person can learn. That is all I am saying.

Scientific American had a long discussion on this entitled the "expert mind" and how it took 10 years to develop an expert mind. I do not remember one discussion in their implying the person had anything other than an average mind. The mind builds software programs to enhance its ablity to solve problems. That applies to life as well.

The reason I use myself and poker is that I know I have an average mind, but as far as poker goes I have an expert mind due to 60 years of playing games in general and poker specifically. Ialso know I had no trouble getting a masters degree at the university of washington's school of public administration which is considered one of the best in the country on a par with Harvards "Kennedy School of government. And in fact I was usually in the upper tier of grades and helped many kids get though certain classes like foreign policy and economics . Remember, I know my IQ is average. But I have spent my life studying more than most.

. The diffence between academic success has more to do with studying than innate intelligence, for average kids. And most people can do much more than most people understand. So I want those other average kids like me to get a chance. Get rid of the entrance examines and SAT's. Let the kid have a chance and if they can cut the mustard let them go.

Community colleges are a good way to weed them out and still give everyone a chance when they grow up.

That is it. The average kid can make it through a university with good study habits. So what do I mean by average. PS I am excluding kids with learning problems like FAS, or Asbergers, or just different minds.

The standard deviation for the Stanford Benit is 14. So I would put average at one standard deviation above and below the mean. That would be 86 to 114 IQ which comprises 68% of the population. Then you would add another 17% more than one standard deviation above the mean. So 68 plus 17 equals 85.

So my theory is that 85% of the kids can get though college; and educating them will change their lives and greatly help society. Most gangbangers are in that 85% and just need to learn how to learn.
