One way to make money in the oil business is invest in companies that own the leases on the land. I invested in a company that owns leases in the Bakken oil field of North Dakota. They have oil wells that are producing and they are drilling wells, approximately 125 per year. I am getting 13.5% income off the investment and it is tax free. The plan is to drill out the leased land then sell it off in 7 or so years and take the capital gains home.
