i side point of this, Jim Johnson right to be in H.O.F. now a near certainty.
Only one point on are first pick--teams that skips a would be super star at his position, and drafts a lesser talent because he isn't an OL(their prime need), get hurt.
Point being if a Lawrence Taylor is sitting at #3, you take him:) Max

Many to blame for Eagles' woes as search continuesBy ROB MAADDI (AP Pro Football Writer) | The Associated Press – 18 hours ago
(Edit:News just in Reid ALREADY has a new Head Coach job. Kansas City Chiefs. Every else has failed to revive this franchise so Reid has jumped from the frying pan into the fire)

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- When a team goes from Super Bowl contender to laughingstock in three months, there's plenty of blame to spread around.

So what went wrong with the Philadelphia Eagles?

Owner Jeffrey Lurie ultimately pinned the team's dramatic fall on Andy Reid because he fired him after 14 seasons as coach. But even Lurie explained it wasn't all Reid's fault, though he wouldn't single out any one else in the organization and absolved general manager Howie Roseman of any blame.

Some of the team's star players had no problem pointing fingers. Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy were extremely critical of their teammates' effort

The Eagles were widely considered legitimate contenders to win the NFL title when the season bega Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy were extremely critical of their teammates' effort.n. It wasn't just players, coaches and front-office folks with high expectations, either.

Instead, the Eagles went 4-12. This came after starting off 2011 as a supposed ''Dream Team'' and then going 8-8.

''I think if you had to point to anything, it's when you had as much success as we had and are so close to winning a Super Bowl, at some stage you have an opportunity to think that the next move, even if it's not consistent with all of your previous moves, will be the one that gives you the chance to win the Lombardi Trophy,'' Lurie said. ''I think that in the last couple years, we've done things that have not been as consistent. They've been more scattered in terms of decision-making.''

Lurie obviously was referring to the team's big splash in free agency in 2011. They signed Nnamdi Asomugha, Jason Babin and several other big-name players. None really panned out except Cullen Jenkins.

There were also some questionable coaching moves before that season. The strangest one was Reid moving Juan Castillo from offensive line coach to defensive coordinator, and doing it after Jim Washburn already was hired to be the defensive line coach. That combination turned out to be a disaster. Castillo was fired this past October and Washburn later in the season.

''You notice it with any organization that has had a lot of success,'' Lurie said, ''that you will start to reach thinking, 'That's the player, that's the method, that's the mechanism, that's the coach, that's the thing that is going to put us over the top.'''

Lurie - and the rest of Philadelphia - hope this offseason results in finding that right ''thing'' this team needs. On Sunday, the Eagles will interview Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy in Denver. McCoy, 40, engineered an offense around quarterback Peyton Manning this season. Denver went 13-3 this year, secured the No. 1 seed in the AFC, and has a bye this weekend. The Broncos ranked fourth in the league in total offense and second in scoring offense.

The Eagles, who finished in last place in the NFC East, have already interviewed Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong, and also have interest in some college coaches, namely Oregon's Chip Kelly and Penn State's Bill O'Brien.(edit:O'Brien has taken himself off the market:he committed to Penn State)

Though the team missed the postseason the last two years, as far as Lurie is concerned, the problems go back to 2009 and 2010, even though the Eagles reached the playoffs both seasons. They went to the NFC championship game in 2008 and lost to Arizona as a favorite on the road. Then they signed Michael Vick before the '09 season to be the No. 3 quarterback behind Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb. McNabb led them to the playoffs that year, but was traded after a loss in the wild card round.

''You're dealing with a franchise quarterback that was descending and therefore you're even more motivated before a player hits rock bottom or you're without a franchise quarterback, that you're going to reach and do certain things,'' he said of McNabb. ''So I think we lost some of the exact nature of the method that we've all shared that created the success, which was discipline, strategic thinking, and don't do necessarily what is popular, but do what's right. It's kind of a human thing and I take some responsibility for that because I was right out in the forefront: 'Let's do anything we can to try to win a Super Bowl for the city and our fans.'''

Looking back, Lurie wishes the Eagles would've stuck to the philosophy of building from the draft and supplementing through free agency rather than trying to fill holes by spending the most money.

''At times, you probably had to be a little more self-disciplined and say, 'Doing that and injecting that into the locker room, affecting the chemistry of the team maybe in some way, that's not the best thing to do,''' Lurie said. ''And yet, you're so able to do it because of whatever opportunities we had, maybe in free agency, that it's kind of like indigestion. You have the capability of ingesting more and more but there's a point of diminishing returns and indigestion.''

Changes in the organizational structure began when president Joe Banner stepped down. Banner, a longtime friend of Lurie, seemingly lost a power struggle to Reid and Roseman. Now Reid's gone and Roseman is the last man standing. Even though he's been the GM for the three years, Lurie almost gave him a clean slate.

''I decided to streamline the whole decision-making process for the 2012 draft and offseason and that's the first draft and offseason I hold Howie completely accountable for,'' Lurie said. ''The mistakes that were made in the 2011 draft have little or nothing to do with Howie's evaluations and I think it was important for me to own up to the mistakes that were made and understand where they were coming from. And it was awfully clear.''

The drafts in 2010 and 2011 produced little talent. Only one of the four players picked in the first two rounds - 2010 first-round choice Brandon Graham - appears to not be a total bust.

Who made the picks and the others those years?

''I want to take a much higher road than that and just say that I've had to really go through exactly everyone's talent evaluations and realized that we needed a real streamlining of the process,'' Lurie said. ''I think the 2012 draft, it's promising. We'll know in three years how that is. I want everyone to understand: Howie is accountable, responsible and that's the way it is. But I'm looking at the 2012 draft and offseason as the beginning of when he was given enough responsibility to put his mark on the team in a very dramatic way.''

Eagles set to interview Arians, BradleyBy ROB MAADDI (AP Pro Football Writer) | The Associated Press – 5 hours ago
(edit:Kelley likely going to Browns. Reid got a 5 year contract)
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- While Andy Reid has found a new home, the Philadelphia Eagles' search to replace him could take some time.

The Eagles were granted permission Friday to interview Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians and Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley for their coaching vacancy.

Team officials already met with three candidates and plan to interview Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy in Denver on Sunday. Oregon coach Chip Kelly was on Philadelphia's list, but a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press he's nearing a deal with Cleveland and the Eagles are ''heading in another direction.''

That person, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team isn't discussing its negotiations publicly, said the Eagles planned to interview several other candidates regardless of any conversations with Kelly.

Reid, who was fired Monday after a 4-12 season, has agreed to a five-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to two people familiar with those negotiations. Reid flew to Kansas City on Friday and already has started assembling his coaching staff, which should include some former assistants.

The Eagles interviewed Penn State's Bill O'Brien on Thursday and met with Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong on Wednesday. O'Brien is remaining at Penn State. The Eagles wanted to talk to Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter, but he signed a contract extension to stay with the team through next season.

The interviews with Arians and Bradley will take place next week.

Arians was 9-3 as interim coach in Indianapolis filling in for Chuck Pagano. He previously served as Pittsburgh's offensive coordinator from 2007-11. The 60-year-old Arians is quite familiar with Philadelphia, having coached Temple from 1983-88.(Mike i think Andrew Luck a "In The Pcoket" passer--have yet to see Andrew Luck--so that would be a match for Foles. The fate of Vick up in air. Does he stay does he the K.C. following Reid, do they say 13 million by not pick up his Option and battle to get a 32 pick from the desperate for QB teams Cards/Jets/Browns/Jags and another i can't think of--it seems Kolb is showing he is a"JourneyMan" back-up QB, type--Cards join Eaglea,Tampa Bay,Lions for incredible collapses (Eagles 1-9/Cards 1-10/Lions a shocking 0-8[as shocking as Eagles] and Bay 1-7.

Bradley is in his fourth season in Seattle. His defense finished first in the NFL in points allowed (15.3) and fourth in yards (306.2).

''There are some outstanding college coaches out there and some outstanding coordinators out there,'' owner Jeffrey Lurie said after firing Reid. ''There are outstanding coaches that used to coach in the National Football League out there. (We'll leave) no stone unturned, and we're open to it all.''

The Eagles' search could last until after the Super Bowl. There are several other coaches on playoff teams that could get interviews with Philadelphia, including Cincinnati's Jay Gruden and Mike Zimmer, Green Bay's Ben McAdoo, Seattle's Darrell Bevell, Washington's Kyle Shanahan and Houston offensive coordinator Rick Dennison.

Former coaches Jon Gruden, Bill Cowher and Tony Dungy - all Super Bowl winners - are not on Philadelphia's radar at this time.

The Eagles went to the playoffs nine times in Reid's 14 seasons, but not since 2010. They last won a playoff game in 2008.

Philly.Com readers poll on Kelly (After "Examination Scramming" i voted Yes! Reason, there is enough there to gamble. i by into Lurie "brilliant mind/adaptable". Plus it has been pointed out he ran an offense NOT dependent on Marquee QBs--His QBs were NOT the centerpoint of the team--he didn't remotely have an RGII or Andrew Luck or Russell Wilson, as a QB. (Philly fans reported to be in "Great!" reaction to "Disaster" reaction(VBG:)

Las Vegas LIKES signing of Kelly as Eagles odds to WIN 2014 SuperBowl made dramatic move

Former Oregon head coach Chip Kelly pulled the trigger and decided to make the jump to the NFL. As a result, sports books here in Las Vegas are expecting bettors to pull the trigger on the Philadelphia Eagles to win the 2014 Super Bowl.

Less than sixty minutes after the story broke that Kelly was headed to Philadelphia, the Wynn sports book adjusted the Eagles’ 2014 Super Bowl odds from 30-1 to 22-1, Wynn Director of Race & Sports Johnny Avello told the National Football Post on Wednesday.

Chip Kelly's hiring is already making an impact in Las Vegas.

Shortly thereafter, the LVH SuperBook adjusted Philadelphia from 50-1 to 30-1, per LVH Director of Race & Sports Jay Kornegay.

ReadersPoll Now 14 hours old and now 63%-37% Yes! for Kelly--i agree with my own Yes! vote as long as time allows: the fellow has too much spark and drive--the best coaches for Eagle since 1960 have in my personal order: Vermeil/Reid/BuddyRyan: Rhodes was biggest accompliment was drafting Brian Dawkins in i think the 2nd round in his first year: he was mediocre: all other coaches Eagles Coaches since 1960 have been awful; Kuharick/Mize/Khayat'Kotite and others were all awful(Kuharich inherited a Super Bowl team and it slowly destructed under his command) Mize and Khayat were a horror--Vermeil saved the Eagles franchise from complete collapse---but Tose that hired Vermeil was to go bankrupt and Eagles had money problems until Reid and Lurie hooked up. The to remember, Reid and Lurie made Eagles a highly profitble franchise: and Lurie is a committed owner, i believe, and knows the franchise depends on success, that the nature of teams in Philly---he has bet the future on Kelly ---i will root for that being a success.

i suspect you feel we have destroyed our future by signing a college coach:) Well Lurie made his decision with CONVICTION. i thus him my support(Did i interview Kelly for 9 hours?? Ha-No--so i have no right to say i know it was the wrong decision--no right at all, but i do know Lurie could NOY pick a coach that fits Foles--as we can that would be a wild gamble aswe do NOT know if he is a franchise QB--no one knows--he is not a Griffin or Brady, that from their first game , it was obvious they were franchise QBs With Aaron Rogers it took several years before he got the chance and 2 years before he was established as a franchise QB.
One thing is Kelly's QB needs think FAST making decision fast, in a complex system. Foles is said to be a very fast learner.(One thing that will not haunt us:Russell Wilson went as the 12thpick in 3rd round and Fole #25
It is obvious now Wilson is already STAR QUALITY, a blue ribbon franchise QB.
Vick wants a yes no decision on himself NOW! He says it would wrong to keep him through the entire off-season, thern release him--i esitmate there at least 4 teams that will compete to sign Vick--including Bradley's team, the Jaguars. Alex Smith and Flynn were both beaten out by superior young talent---but Smith in trade??? i don't know about that--hmmmm.
But here is what Kelly and Roseman are saying and the writer:
""Our offense is always going to be tailored to who's playing," Kelly said.
He may have no other choice but to play Foles. But if he watches the film from last season and doesn't see a starter in the 6-foot-6, 243-pound quarterback, Roseman made it clear that the Eagles would do whatever it took to get Kelly his starter.

"We told coach Kelly - and what we told all the coaches [they interviewed] - was that we would make sure that we had every resource to our disposal to get them the pieces in place that they felt they needed to win a world championship," Roseman said.

Getting that quarterback is much easier said than done. There is no Robert Griffin III in this year's draft - at least that's the general consensus with three months till the draft. There are no attractive getable free agents. There are a few backup quarterbacks - like the 49ers' Alex Smith and the Seahawks' Matt Flynn - who could be acquired via trade."

Kelly will watching film of Foles over and over. Plus yards and yards of QBs in the draft.
