NEW YORK--

Software Publisher Takes Number One Spot in Games Software;

Continues to Pull Number One Share in Value Software for

Year-to-Date

In a continuing show of market share strength, GT Interactive Software Corp. (NASDAQ: GTIS) has secured the number one market share position in Games software (units sold) while maintaining its number one position in Value software (units sold/dollars) for the year-to-date, according to PC Data's October reports.

In addition, two GT Interactive titles performed among the top 20 best-sellers (units), including Total Annihilation, an award- winning real-time strategy game developed by Cavedog Entertainment; and Deer Hunter, an internally developed game from WizardWorks, the company's value-priced division.

"We are pleased to achieve the number one position in game units sold, outpacing such competitors as CUC and Electronic Arts," said Ron Chaimowitz, president and chief executive officer of GT Interactive.
"Likewise, we continue to hold our leadership position in the value software category, testimony to both the growing mass market for lower-priced software and our ability to create compelling experiences at palatable price points."

For the month of October, GT Interactive was the number one publisher in the Games category (units sold) and was the number one publisher in the Budget/Value-priced software category (units sold, dollars). This marks the tenth consecutive month that GT Interactive has achieved the number one position in Value software.
