We need to rehire all the teachers, cops, firefighters, and other assorted miscreants we fired in the name of austerity, and then hire more. We need more shoe-repair stores and fewer foreign shoes in the garbage. We need watches and stereos that need repairing instead of replacing. We need populations willing and able to support full time municipal bands and orchestras and choirs and stage groups and large parks with lots of personnel and municipal pools. Also 4 more pro leagues for each sport, along with semi-pro town teams. We need gardeners who use hand rakes and push mowers on 2 houses a day, instead of blowers and power mowers on 8. We need milkmen and milkwomen. We need 20X more Mom and Pops', and X fewer Wally worlds. We need to pay a living wage, instead of food stamp wages. We need backyard farmers. At least that one can happen.
