I never understood why he gave that card card away in the first place i.e. 14th amendment. It was his leverage. He could have threatened to raise the debt ceiling by executive action. Then what could they do?

Bill Clinton told him to do that last time and let the courts sort it out.

Then I saw it (seemed to see it?), his plan was to just stand pat and refuse to negotiate it. That is the right play if he can stand the heat. But there was also no good reason at all to show his hand and just give that bargaining chip away for no reason at all. It does not improve his position one iota?

Maybe someone can explain it to me.

Ezra Klein seems baffled as well.
