Gun sales seem to indicate more people wanting to own guns.

Although there are 300 million guns in the US, most guns are owned by a shrinking portion of the population and its hardly 1 on 1 distribution.

But I repeat what I said earlier, there is absolutely unnecessary to have assault weapons with multi bullet magazines on the street.

"Assault Weapons" is a meaningless category. These are basically weapons that have a military look. They are semi-auto one trigger pull one shot weapons. Fuctionally pretty much identical (except they tend to be lower power) than any number of other non "assault" weapons. Its an "assault weapon" because its made with black plastic instead of wood, and it might have things like a bayonet lug, a flash suppressor, etc.

Also the cops took 20 minutes to arrive and do anything. He could have been using a 1800s lever action rifle, or even a break open shotgun, and easily got off more shots then the number of shots he actually took.
