One thing I think a lot of people overlook now, or the way they look at things is that "products" are physical.

I think Apple has realized its greatest competitors threaten from the software and internet, not the actual physical products. That's why it is trying to develop its own mapping apps etc.

Physical product innovation is limited to a great extent because of the fact that chips etc are pretty much available to all its competitors. Its harder to differentiate itself in the hardware area.

However it has been more successful than many, milled aluminum, making its own low power chips. Those kinds of leads are ephemeral at best though.

Apple would love to build liquid metal phones...
