First of all, my sincere apologies. We're obviously on different pages.

This is the rule.....

For portfolio stock picks submitted after Monday, 12/31/12, 4PM EST, but prior to Monday, 1/14/13, 4PM EST, I’ll use the 4PM closing prices for the first trading day following the day the portfolio was posted. (For example, for a portfolio posted on Friday, 1/4/13, I’ll use the 4PM closing prices for Monday, 1/7/13.)

So, please clarify for me why you are discussing the date that you sent the portfolio to Marty, rather than the first trading day after your portfolio is posted? And why couldn't you choose to submit your portfolio after a market correction? And, I'm not suggesting that you would, but what stops other participants from actually withdrawing a submitted portfolio, if their entry criteria aren't met?

Not to mention that individuals traditionally review the picks of others, looking for gems. Marty has that privilege with at least one portfolio other than yours, tradition be damned.

>> I sent my picks to Bulba at exactly 3:25:39 P.M. on 1/1/13 <<

I was not implying that you were taking advantage of any news for portfolio construction! I don't understand why the timing of your email to Marty is important. By the rules, the date that you POST determines your basis.

Your proposal? Take it up with Marty.

Again, apologies! Let me put it this way..... I won't contribute to the charity of any vet who elects (excluding vacations, etc.) to enter late, but I'll definitely pick the best performance among those who made best effort to get in by the 1st or so, and make sure that the contest spirit is honored.

Best! Rick

>> I sent my picks to Bulba at exactly 3:25:39 P.M. on 1/1/13 (Bulba, back me up on that if need be). Note that this was well before the outcome of the fiscal cliff had been determined. Moreover, note that, given the fact that the fiscal cliff was subsequently averted late that evening and the markets sharply rebounded the following day, I was in fact HARMED by being one day late given the fact that the starting initial price for the stocks in my portfolio will be as of the end of that day. <<

Yes. Many here know that I am in the same boat.

Entries on the first are traditionally on time, and, oddly, they actually get a basis of the 12/31 close.

Imagine that! Radical, Dude......
