There was an unusual situation this year - a potential huge macro market swing in one direction or another right at the beginning of the contest. Lots of ways that could potentially impact the competition if you have a flexible start date and prices back-dated to the beginning of the year. So I think these rules were in fact needed. The alternative would be to have a rule that said use the higher (i.e. less favorable) of Jan 1 or entry date price. Trip was great, but currently between jet lag and the flu-type bug that seems to be going around I'm not at my best. FWIW, here is my entry: INCY GLPG XNPT MAPP VVUS NPSP AVEO GENT SKBI Equally weighted except for the 1% extra to one stock. Peter
