The most valid comparison would be the total murder rate. It's numbers, not methods that matter. Also the fact that the US has Mexico next door isn't irrelevant.

How many gun deaths are there in Europe per capita and how many are there in the U.S. per capita?

Who cares? Who wants to live under European socialism? Besides, in strict gun controlled Eastern Europe, the reported murder rate is almost 2x that here or 6.4 per 100,000.

14,611 Americans were murdered in 2011.
321 or 2% of those Americans were murdered by a rifle.

One of the most anti-gun law states - California had 45 killed by rifle and 261 murdered by knives.
That is right. California killed 15 more Americans with knives than the rest of the states and territories killed with rifles. Let that sink in.

In 2011, NY had 5 murdered by rifle and 160 knife murders.

In two of the most heavily armed states, Alaska and Wyoming, 2011 murders by rifle were ZERO. Let that sink in too.

If you want a regional comparison, compare the US intentional homicide rate of 4.7 per 100,000 with the Southern Africa rate of 30.7.
In America most who want to own a weapon do. In Southern Africa very very few own or will ever be able to afford a weapon.

Will disarming Americans make the residents of Eastern Europe, and Southern Africa more like us, or us more like them?

When are Bloomberg, Pelosi and Feinstein going to start their knife collections?
