Liberals live in a world based on form over function. It's a large part of their mental makeup. Rush used to call it favoring symbolism over substance. I haven't heard him say that for awhile. Another example of the difference is that conservatives favor equal opportunity. Liberals favor equal outcomes. In their minds, the fact that the prison population is more heavily black than the population in general is proof positive that our justice system in the U.S. is racist.
