"Australia doesn't live next to a third world country that imports drugs, guns and people into their country illegally everyday."

Canada does. I feel sorry for them. They are feeling the pain from the spillover, and they will get no relief.

As for gun killing, at 10.2 deaths per 100,000 per year the USA is the only wealthy nation in the global top 10; Americans kill each other at double the rate of Canadians, the next closest peer country (#17 in gun deaths at 4.78 per 100,000); more than double 'heavily armed' Switzerland (#20 at 3.84); three times the rate of France, five times the rate of Israel, and more than ten times the gun death rate of Germany, England, or Japan. All of those places have violent movies, all have rock music (or rap music or jazz music); all have violent video games; and most of them (including Canada, the UK, France, and Germany) have large ethnic minority populations. The difference is the access to guns.

"try to disarm the law abiding public"

Won't happen. Ever. Obama won't even take yer gun to give to a gay couple for a wedding present. We have almost 1 gun/ person., and, as a minimum, half as much ammo as we produced for WW2. We could ban all sales and manufacture at 1PM today and totally totally control the borders, and there will be almost as many in 100 years.

Lt. Gen. Levin H. Campbell, Jr., Chief of Ordnance from 1942 to 1946, proudly had this to say:

From Pearl Harbor to V-J Day the Industry-Ordnance team furnished to the Army and 43 foreign nations 47 billion rounds of small arms ammunition, approximately 11 million tons of artillery ammunition, more than 12 million rifles and carbines, approximately 750,000 artillery pieces and 3/2 million military vehicles.

You miss the point it works in every coutnry it has been tried. Tell me a country where that is not true!

What guys like you do is think stuff up to rationalize your position and then say it is true. But you don't actualy know if it is true.

In Japan they have almost no guns at all and they have something like 4/5? guns deaths a year. Almost none.

Take all the guns away, except hunting rifles and gun deaths will drop greatly. Hunting guns can be used for hunting and self defense, but they cannot be hidden like hand guns and cannot shoot a zillion bullets in a few seconds.

It sure worked well in Australia when they did it!

Rifles are all we need to keep legal.

Hands guns have no use at all I can think of. Except to kill people.

Make a law that people who have a hand gun go to jail and then have a buy back program. That would work.

There are so many guns in the US they are easily smuggled into Chicago.
But isn't that illegal - isn't murder illegal as well. You miss the fact that it's criminals that use these guns for murder and they will always get them from somewhere. While you try to disarm the law abiding public you make things easier for criminals. Australia doesn't live next to a third world country that imports drugs, guns and people into their country illegally everyday.
