(imagine a car dashboard or center console that is essentially a touch sensitive surface that displays and instrument cluster when needed or a route map, kind of what an iPad does, only much bigger).
Shudder -

While there are some wonderful uses for the technology, I shudder at this unless you're talking about one if those self driving cars.

Usually I use car controls by feel and I know where they are or I might glance and then press or twiddle.

Here you have an interface that keeps changing and no or little tactile feedback so difficult for many people to do by feel requiring longer time with eyes off the road.

*OT* Tesla is currently shipping it's Model S with a pretty large 'iPad like' center display that controls most functions of the car. Here are some pics....

John

OT Siri would probably make this dashboard safer if it worked well. I posted this some time ago when I checked out the new TESLA Model S in my local TESLA retail showroom. Most functions require you to use the large touchscreen, and in many cases drill down thru multiple levels...

Regards,
John

*OT* This is the 'trend' in cars and from an ergonomic point of view it's dangerous IMO...
