I did the reverse, without the scholarships. College made me a respiratory physiologist, then CC gave me a career in respiratory therapy.

Many/most, including academics, do not understand what the average mind can do if developed. What's more learning greatly changes people, as you point out, so at any time a person may want something
different in life. As they learn about it. Like the pleasure and relative safety of getting stoned on pot-lol.

I tell the story if you are given a book in Chinese and can't read Chinese it makes for a very boring book, but if you read Chinese it might be very interesting.

And knowledge changes people not only quantitatively, but qualitativly. I never saw knowledge hurt anyone, but I sure have seen it help people. Just to get throught the rigors of life if nothing else.

I know the streets as well as anyone and I know academia as well as anyone. Half those clowns in academia are full of shit-lol. Status freaks. Give me a good old honest community college teacher any day.
